Hi, my name is Raye (they/them) and I am based out of Oakland, CA (Huichin Ohlone Land).

What can I help you with? How can I support you on your movement journey?

I have been a movement teacher since 2008 for bodies of all abilities. I specialize in working with people who have neurological conditions including (but not limited to) spinal cord injuries, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and strokes. I am a life-long learner of the human body, a former collegiate athlete, and a lover of the natural world. Want to learn more about me and the method I use?

Why Rooted Movement?

Just as a tree needs a solid root system to grow strong and outward, the human body requires a solid root system to become strong and resilient. The process of establishing this foundation will look different for everyone, but might entail working with your neck strength, or your pelvis and breath to strengthen your core. Rooted movement also means that we will work together to try to find the root cause of a problem that may be causing you pain or dysfunction.

Why Radical Movement?

Movement is radical when we address the root cause of a problem, set an intention, and find our edge.

  • Radical is my client with a cervical spinal cord injury who can finally sit up tall and hold her own cup of coffee.

  • Radical is my client healing her diastasis recti (split abdominals) after giving birth to 3 children.

  • Radical is my group of students that show up every single Tuesday to my adaptive strength training class.

Radical also means we are helping take care of people in our communities that may not have the resources they need. Because when we are more connected and grounded in our own bodies, we can show up for other people that need our support.

Why Resilient Movement?

As you strengthen your root system and radicalize your movement, you become stronger, more resilient and less prone to injuries, pain, and stress. A resilient body is one that can thrive, not just survive…to do the things you love to do and be with your loved ones.

What People Are Saying

“I’ve worked with three trainers over five years, and Raye is cut from a different cloth. They care deeply about their work, and understands your body and partners with you to meet your goals.”

— John G.

“Raye’s years of knowledge and experience helped to map my road to recovery. They fine tune exercises that push me ahead. I love working with Raye because they are so positive and make the hard work fun!”

-Lynn M.

Raye is an amazingly skilled teacher with a keen and quick appreciation of an individual’s needs. They have an exceptional ability to convey how to do the work/exercises necessary to increase mobility. In short, Raye is the most skilled, inspirational and knowledgeable person I have ever worked with on my mobility that is limited by spinal cord and knee damage.
